Mini Episode 8: Be Pushy

Seller Club Podcast

As in, KEEP PUSHING and adjust your business as you go. You have the power to make positive changes, and if you've been hanging out in the clubhouse with us for very long, you already know we aren't about settling around here! There is much to be gained when you keep going, keep doing your best, and push for better.

SPEAKER_00:

Here we go. The next tip. Keep pushing and adjusting. I felt like we just talked about this the other day with like pivoting. Exactly, like pivoting in business and how you have to um you know think quickly on stuff. I think that if you're if you can't make decisions quickly, it's gonna be very difficult to be a reseller because think about it, if you're in a garage sale and you're gonna have to you're picking up items, you gotta think quick. You can't just rely on eBay and comps right away. You have knowledge and like bundle that 20 bucks.

SPEAKER_01:

Right? You're gonna be able to say that, right?

SPEAKER_00:

And then thrift store, same thing. Maybe there's competition out there, especially the bins, bins are wild, which uh you know Ken has tried before and yeah, I have I almost got kicked out.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, because I actually went to the bins where you're not supposed to touch it yet. I'm like, why is nobody here? Why I don't like no, you can't be in there. I was like, oh crap, no, you're fired. Um yeah, so I adjusted quick and never went back again.

SPEAKER_00:

See, there you go. Uh but I think with pushing and adjusting though, is that um we also know it's just part of the journey as well. So after we pivot, we gotta enjoy this whole maybe something is selling so well for six months, eight months, a year, and maybe people are just aren't buying it anymore. Maybe it went down in value, maybe you have to rethink your niche and you do have to make that pivot, then what are you gonna do? I mean you have to you have to make the adjustment, you have to keep going, and you're gonna try something new. Might be a new platform, might be a new niche. I don't know, but uh every situation's different there, but we have to keep going.

SPEAKER_01:

Yep. I I believe that adjusting is part of the journey. Um I think that you know, just looking at b at our you know journey with reselling here, um we started with you know, heavy Burlington fines and then went to like um I tried buying collections and then I tried buying uh wholesale buyouts, big buyouts, and then you know, from even the platform perspective too, we went heavy eBay, and then one year we did heavy whatnot, live selling, and then now we're back at eBay. I think if I didn't accept that that was just part of the journey, it would have been really stressful. But now looking back at it, I just accepted it that it was part of the journey. I wasn't like, okay, well, if I'm on whatnot now, I'm probably gonna forget eBay forever. You know, kind of just like like it's kinda like having that perspective of like I'm only gonna live one year from now, and then well I regret adjusting. But if you that that's such a limited mindset, you cannot you know, like just space your life out within just two to three years. You gotta be able to see like okay, what's a five-tenye uh does it look like? You can do both, you can have one or the other, and it's the same thing as I've seen in my business, in Anna's and Glenn's business. We've all pivoted, we've all adjusted, yeah, and I mean, at the end of the day, we still, you know, smile and have the energy to do a podcast like this.

SPEAKER_02:

Wow. You can't see us, but we're definitely smiling. Um yeah, I think about this a lot, like you know, about your personal best and pushing yourself to not get complacent and to kind of pursue excellence and revisit, you know, the way that you show up to your own work because you know, a lot of times, even if there are things that you kind of you get those things down pat. Like, yes, we have to adjust and adapt, and like our processes don't stay the same forever, but I know that I hit a stride sometimes where I'm like, my processes are great. Like I can't find a way to improve the way that I do this task in my business or whatever, but I can always improve how I'm showing up to it. I can always comb through and look and see where else maybe needs my attention and needs me to kind of push, right? Like if you're not being proactive about that stuff, it will get sloppier anyway. But if you're always looking for how to just even a little bit improve it or improve your consistency or improve um, you know, your track record or whatever, like all of that sort of counts to kind of keep you on your toes and to keep your business fresh and ready for whatever is next, right? The things that will make you pivot and make you adjust.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I think when Ken was talking about how we were doing a lot of like in-store finds when it came to like Ross and Burlington, Nike Outlet and things like that. I think what kind of makes it difficult on my side of things is like having a whole channel dedicated to that.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Um, because like of course I was not right. I mean, I was doing it for so long, and of course I still enjoy going out there to the stores, but to say that I'm sourcing there 100% for my eBay business is is definitely not true. And I've you know talked about that for the last like I don't know, two and a half years on the channel when we go live, like it's fun to do in-store whatever they have, and kind of cool to look at that, but I'm not I'm not sourcing there, and that's one of the things that I had to really adjust as well, is like, hey, this is what I'm doing now for the business side. I'm getting way more inventory than I'd ever gotten before, and it's just not the same, you know, but I've grown, and so it was uh it's still kind of a weird thing for the channel on how I would kind of approach it, but I think I'd rather do more, maybe like eBay, you know, tips and things that I've been kind of into now, but I guess that's my example. Throwing that in there.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, for sure. I mean there you have it, guys. Just get pushing and adjusting and enjoy the journey. We'll see you tomorrow.
